He has over five decades of experience in exporting and importing stretches, in international banking and the world of international commerce. Bob now has the honour of being the first Australian and only the second non-lawyer to be invited by the ICC to be a member of their Incoterms® Drafting Group to draft the new Incoterms® 2020. Bob is a prolific speaker and an active voice within Incoterms and trade finance. Joining us today from Australia, Bob has managed two of the most active LinkedIn groups within trade finance and Incoterms, attracting a collective 50,000 followers in the community.

The industry’s increasing importance for Islamic and other investors around the world is evidenced by its steady growth in recent years. Potential future growth prospects are robust, supported by global demographic trends. Sharia (Islamic law) compliant banking assets make up 6% of the world’s banking assets, but globally, approximately one in four people are Muslim. The scope for growth is obvious.

Exporting is great, but hard. Particularly for UK exporters today. The global economy is changing fast. Despite the global financial crisis and Brexit, UK exports were worth around two times more in 2017 than in 1997 in real terms. Exporting is hard, especially for SMEs. Grappling with tariff changes, certificates of origin, Incoterms and all the customs documentation is no easy feat. On that subject, TFG spoke to the winner of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade. Deepesh Patel interviewed Imran Arshad, founder of Eventuri, an SME that designs and manufactures advanced carbon fibre air intake systems used for performance cars.
